Whaea Dawnette
By Kaya Te Awa
This is the worst day I had ever experienced in a school, losing the best admin officer.
On Monday morning we travelled over to the marae in Awarua. When we had arrived at the marae we had to wait fro the karanga to call us on to the marae. We all felt depressed and sad. When we had walked into the marae all the men and the boys started shaking hands and kissing everyone in the marae then all the rest of the people. The boys and the men were sitting on the chairs only some girls and ladies got to sit on the chair. Some of the girls had to make one or two rows in front on the chairs. Then all the kaumatua stood up and said a whaikorero then it was our Tautoro Schools turn to talk. Matua Hemara stood up to say his korero… and then sang heaps of songs and when we sang, it was felt so nice to have a sung like that.
next , we were called in to the wharekai for a little snack. Some adults had some boil up, but not our teachers. When our school finished their kai, we went back on the bus back to school. After we got to school we were just in time for lunch we had our own lunch. We got to go play after we got to have a kai.
